Manukau is a different beast to most suburbs I train in. It is the civic and commercial heart of South Auckland — the Westfield mall, MIT, the train station and bus interchange, motorway interchanges feeding in from every direction. A lot of the homes around the centre are apartments and townhouses rather than standalone places with big back yards, which means your dog is living in close quarters and out among crowds far more than most. That is challenging, but it is also exactly why dogs from this part of Auckland end up so well rounded when you put the work in. If your dog can hold it together here, they can hold it together anywhere.
The distractions around Manukau are relentless and that shapes how I train. We have got heavy traffic and motorway noise, the foot traffic around the mall and the food court, public transport at the station and a real shortage of off-leash space close to the centre. Two of the best local parks, Puhinui Reserve and Barry Curtis Park, are on-leash at all times, so for a lot of owners here loose-lead walking and rock-solid focus around distraction matter far more than off-lead recall. I build my sessions around that reality — calm, switched-on lead manners past prams and skateboards at Barry Curtis, settling around livestock and harbour birds out at Puhinui, and steady behaviour in lifts, stairwells and shared corridors back home.
I start in your home, because that is where most of the real problems live — barking that travels through shared walls, pulling the second you hit the footpath, jumping on guests in a small space. Once your dog is responding well there, I take the training on location to the parks and reserves that fit your goals. For genuine off-lead work I will often head to Tōtara Park, which has a designated off-leash exercise area, while the on-leash spots are where we sharpen focus and control. It is balanced training using all four quadrants, paced to your dog and your living situation, so the results actually stick in the busy world you both live in.

Stop lunging, barking and pulling towards other dogs and people on walks.
Enjoy relaxed walks without your dog pulling your arm off.
Sit, stay, come, down and heel that work in real situations, not just your lounge.
Train Where You Walk
We train your dog at the actual locations you walk them. Real world training for real world reliability.
One of the area's largest parks at around 216 hectares with native bush trails, a farm track and a designated off-leash exercise area (reached partway around the loop), so it is my go-to local spot for genuine off-lead recall work around real distractions like mountain bikers, horses on the bridle trail and other dogs — dogs must stay on-leash on the bush trails and in the picnic areas, so check the on-site signage.
A 199-hectare working farm on the Manukau Harbour with easy walkways and harbour views where dogs must be on-leash at all times and are prohibited on the foreshore, making it a brilliant place to train calm, focused loose-lead walking around livestock, open farmland and harbour birdlife.
A 94-hectare park in neighbouring Flat Bush with wide tree-lined paths, sports fields and playgrounds where dogs must be on-leash at all times (and are not allowed on the playground or sports fields), so I use it to build reliable lead manners and focus past prams, joggers, skaters and other dogs.
Plus all local reserves, walkways and neighbourhood streets in Manukau and surrounding areas.

Common Questions
It is tighter than people expect. The two big flat parks near the centre, Puhinui Reserve and Barry Curtis Park, are on-leash at all times, so for off-lead work I usually head to Tōtara Park on the Manukau/Manurewa edge, which has a designated off-leash exercise area. I build recall and off-lead control around that, while we use the on-leash parks to sharpen focus and loose-lead walking. Always check the on-site signage too, as park rules can change.
Absolutely, and honestly this is a lot of what I do here. The centre is mostly apartments and townhouses, so I focus on the things that matter in close quarters — barking that carries through shared walls, calm behaviour in lifts, stairwells and corridors, and settling without a big yard to burn energy in. I come to your home, work with your actual living setup, then take it on location once your dog is responding well.
Yes. Manukau throws a lot at a dog — the mall crowds, motorway noise, buses and the train interchange — and that is exactly what we train for. Rather than avoiding it, I gradually build your dog's focus and loose-lead walking in increasingly busy spots so they learn to stay calm and switched on around all of it. It takes a structured plan, not a single fix, but it absolutely gets there.
Every programme is tailored to your dog, your goals and your living situation, so there is no one-size-fits-all price. The best next step is to have a look at my pricing page or book a consult, and I will map out exactly what your dog needs and what it involves.
